Community Café and Food Hub
Information on the Community Café and Food Hub
Colinsburgh Community Café and Food Hub (also known as the 'Community Fridge') is based at Colinsburgh Town Hall. It is a place to meet and have a coffee and chat and take some surplus food supplied by the local supermarkets and food producers. This is an opportunity to stop fresh food near its use-by/sell-by date ending up in Landfill and doing your bit for the environment. It's also a great place to have a catch-up with friends and neighbours. The Café and Hub runs on a 'Take what you need and give what you can' basis and there is no charge but donations are always welcome to go towards the upkeep of the Hall.
There's always a range of canned goods, and non-food items (such as nappies), plus whatever fresh food we get donated by a local Morrison's, Co-Op and the Ardross Farm Shop. From April 2023, the initiative has started to purchase trays of food from the FareShare Scheme, using donated monies. This food is provided on a different day and time to broaden access to those who can't make the other date..
During February and March 2023, the Community Café and Food Hub provided a range of nutritious, home-made frozen meals for no charge, funded by a grant from Fife Council. The scheme was greatly appreciated and, subject to further successful grant applications, may be repeated in future years.
- The Community Café and Food Hub runs every Tuesday morning in Colinsburgh Town Hall from 10:30-Noon.
- The FareShare food is distributed every Friday evening in Colinsburgh Town Hall from 18:00 to 18:30.
The Community Café and Food Hub has its own Facebook page which can be found here.
Volunteering
The café and food hub is run by volunteers, who set out the tables, collect from the Co-Op and Morrision's, lay-out the food, bake the cakes, cook the home-made meals, run the café hub and clear up afterwards. If you would like to volunteer then we'd love to hear from you. Please contact Sue Rabjohns to find out more. You can do this via the Enquiry Form from the 'Contact' menu item above. Please mention Sue's name in your message and we'll make sure it's passed onto her.
